Abbeyfield House, Duncan
Abbeyfield House Society of Duncan is a not for profit residence for the independent living of seniors located in Duncan, British Columbia. Abbeyfield Duncan is associated with Abbeyfield Canada and Abbeyfield Houses located worldwide.
Abbeyfield Houses offer a warm, family-style home model of living with a balance between privacy and companionship, and security and independence, as well as the special caring element provided by dedicated volunteers and the support of Abbeyfield staff. Privacy and independence are preserved yet the gentle supportive domestic atmosphere provides companionship and freedom from worries and chores.
The Abbeyfield Duncan residence is a lovely old renovated and updated house which is well maintained and surrounded by 1.25 acres of beautiful gardens and lawns, one block away from Quamichan Lake. Our gardens contain large native fir, cedar and maple trees, fruit trees, flowers and shrubberies along paths to sitting areas and a Gazebo for shelter from the sun or rain. Ample parking is available on site and the city bus is two blocks away. The house is accessible by those with disabilities.
Inside Abbeyfield House Duncan the ambiance is quite cosy and yet spacious. It has a full facility Kitchen that opens to a nice primary Dining Room with lots of light and enough space for all. Nearby there is an Audio-Visual Room with comfortable seating and a separate Games Room for players and puzzlers which is connected through french doors to a formal Dining Room and a large Sitting Room with a good working fireplace. The house is equipped with an elevator to access the second floor for those with mobility difficulty.
Abbeyfield Duncan operates like a simple family-style home. Each resident has their own private bed-sitting room furnished with their own things and with an attached private two piece bathroom. A staff House Manager attends to the daily running of the house. The residents share breakfast, lunch and dinner prepared by our awesome Abbeyfield Duncan Cooking Staff. Snacks and drinks are also available throughout the day from a well-stocked pantry and refrigerator. A Night Responder is available on site by remote alarm for emergencies from 11:00 pm to 7:00 am. Gardens are maintained, and common areas of the house are cleaned by Abbeyfield Staff.
Abbeyfield Houses Society of Duncan is registered under the Societies Act of British Columbia and is administered by a Board of Directors comprised of local volunteers.
Residents of Abbeyfield Duncan pay one affordable monthly fee which includes the cost of benefits, including food, food preparation, basic utilities, buildings, grounds and staff. Please contact us for our current rates.

Support your local Abbeyfield
Think globally, act locally. Here’s your chance. We’ll all be old someday too. Abbeyfield Houses are a worldwide organization that provides a unique affordable living arrangement for independent seniors. It’s like living in a normal family home with some extra supports. When seniors can no longer stay in their traditional home, there is not a better alternative than an Abbeyfield House. And Duncan has one right here. It took the big efforts of many people to get it here, and it takes constant effort to keep it. Make a donation of your time or your money, we appreciate both.

Abbeyfield House Duncan is always seeking volunteers to play and explore with seniors. Want to share a few laughs ? Do you have a hobby or interest that you would like to share ? Bring your world to ours. We’d love to meet you.
We often have work that needs to be done for maintenance and improvement of the buildings and grounds. If you are a gardener or handy-man carpenter who can volunteer a few hours, than we want to hear from you. We’ll supply the treats and juice.
If you have management, marketing, legal, medical, seniors care or other relevant skills and knowledge, please consider becoming a member of the Board of Directors of the Society. It will be a lot of work for no pay except some laughs and encouragement, but it’s all for a good cause with good people.
Thank you to Mr. Frank Milne
A BIG THANKS, and a hug to Mr. Frank Milne for his extremely kind and generous gift of August 2017 by paying down our mortgage by $11,500. Frank has lead a colourful life all around BC, and says others often helped him and now he’s giving back. His donation will make a big difference for us.
To Frank - Thank you so much and take care on your travels.
